So apparently, there does exist, somewhere, a T100 SR5 with 2wd, though seemingly 99% of all SR5s are 4x4. The 4wds look cooler, and would be nice to own, but those add a nice punch in the gut to the asking price. And 4wd is something I’m not prioritizing at the moment. And finding great examples is rough to begin with (and competitive).
I’ve found two exceptional 2wd DXs for sale. You can option out DXs to an extent, but as far as I can gather, you can’t get central locking, power windows, or bucket seats. It might be alien to hear me mention creature comforts like those, but I want them and you can’t stop me.
I suppose it’s possible to take the interior door contents off of another wrecked T100 and swap them in... I wonder how tough that wiring job will be though (I am not the handiest of hands). Yeah I could eventually, maybe, find bucket seats for sale at some point. But honestly I would prefer to just have a nice, complete example this time, but I can stomach a bench seat no problem if I had the power options.
So yes, I’m browsing for an unpopular trim-and-layout combo on a once-maligned but now annoyingly expensive 20-year old pickup. Should be fun.

Regular cab, or does it need to be extra cab?

Also, unrelated but I thought of you when I saw it:

That GTS is stupid clean and stupid cheap!
And yeah, extended cab for now. Would consider a base cab if I were replacing my pickup, but I most certainly don’t plan on that.

For a truck that had a real hard time in the new market T100s command a surprising amount of money used. Even nasty ones cost you!

Yep, I’ve been very fortunate when shopping for my personal vehicles, finding a good deal here and there. But like my wife’s car, this ain’t no Tercel or Celica. I’m gonna have to open the wallet.

The GTS is almost suspiciously nice for a mid-80s Japanese car from New England. I should probably take a look at it, it's been for sale a while.

GT-S convertibles tend to go for notably more. With that price and the fact that it’s been sitting for sale, it is either that 2% chance of exceptional fortune or 98% chance of the usual CL bullshit.

4WD adds weight and complication. If you don’t need it, I’d advise not buying it. And check the comparables - I’m guessing people just overprice them and hope for the best.

As I said I’d prefer a 2WD for sure... I save the 4WD for my Tercel obsession (and perhaps a Land Cruiser one day).

If you don’t need something immediately, wait for the estate sale or the nice old lady who doesn’t know what she has. Pay her fair value, of course, but no need to overpay.

I'm guessing because they're essentially a larger Toyota pickup. Don't think they look as good though.

I take it you’ve begun to shop exclusively at Whole Foods?
